Trip exchange rates
Agree one fixed rate for the whole trip — for example the rate you got at the money changer. New expenses in that currency use it automatically, so everyone is charged the same way. Leave a currency off this list to use the live rate instead.

Record a payment
When someone actually pays someone else, record it here. Your original expenses stay untouched — this is a separate record.
How to use Coshare
Quick start — five steps
- Open Trips and tap + New trip. Give it a name and choose the base currency — the one everybody will settle up in (for example INR).
- On People, type each person's name and tap Add. You need at least two.
- Optional: under Trip exchange rates, save the rate your group agreed on (for example 1 THB = 2.60 INR from the money changer).
- Tap Add (the + in the menu) for every expense: what it was, the amount, the currency you paid in, who paid and who shared it. Tap Save expense.
- Open Settle to see who owes whom. When someone pays, tap Record payment.
The six screens
- Trips
- All your trips. Tap one to open it. Use + New trip to start another.
- People
- Base currency, everyone on the trip, and the trip exchange rates.
- Add
- Log an expense. Use the keypad (or your keyboard on a computer). You can do sums like 12.50 + 4.20.
- Ledger
- Every expense, newest first. Filter by category or person. Tap a row to edit or delete it.
- Settle
- Each person's balance, the shortest list of payments to square up, and a place to record payments.
- Share
- Send a summary to the group, save a picture or a spreadsheet, move the trip to another phone, or back it up.
Currencies & exchange rates
You can log expenses in 160+ currencies. The app converts each one into the trip's base currency using this order — the first one that exists wins:
- Your own rate — type a rate into the box next to the currency on the Add screen (for example the exact rate on your card statement). Applies to that one expense.
- Trip rate — a fixed rate saved on the People screen. Used for every new expense in that currency, so the whole group is charged the same way.
- Live rate — fetched automatically from free public sources and refreshed every hour while the app is open. With no internet, the last saved rates (or the built-in ones) are used.
Each expense remembers the rate it was saved with. Changing a rate later does not change old expenses unless you tap Apply to existing expenses next to a trip rate.
Changing the base currency clears the trip rates, because they were written in the old currency.
Settling up
- Open Settle. Green means the person should get money back; red means they owe.
- Who pays whom lists the fewest payments that clear every balance.
- When a payment really happens (cash, UPI, bank), choose who paid whom, enter the amount and tap Record payment. Your expenses are never changed — the payment is kept separately.
On a phone and on a computer
- Phone: the menu sits at the bottom of the screen. Tip: use your browser's Add to Home screen option to open the app like any other app.
- Computer: the menu sits on the left and screens use two columns. On the Add screen you can type the amount straight from your keyboard (digits, + − × ÷, Backspace, Esc to clear).
- Light or dark look: tap the sun / moon button at the top. The app remembers your choice.
Questions
- Do I need an account?
- No. Nothing to sign up for. Optional accounts are planned for a later version.
- Does it work without internet?
- Yes. Only the rate refresh needs a connection.
- The rate looks wrong.
- Tap Refresh rates on the People screen, or type your own rate on the expense.
- Where does the rounding go?
- Amounts are split to the smallest coin (paisa, cent). Any leftover coin is handed out one at a time, so the shares always add up exactly to the total.
- Is my data private?
- Yes. Trips never leave your device unless you share them yourself.
