Privacy policy

Short version: Coshare has no accounts and no database. Your trips stay in your own browser. We never see them.

What we collect

Nothing that identifies you. There is no sign-up, so we never ask for your name, email address, phone number, contacts or location. The names and amounts you type into a trip are stored only on your device (see below).

Where your trip data lives

Your trips, people, expenses and payments are saved in your browser's local storage on the device you are using. They are not sent to us or to anyone else.

• Nothing is backed up for you. If you clear this site's data in your browser, your trips are deleted. Use Save trip file on the Share screen if you want a copy.
• Data is not synced. A trip on your phone does not appear on your laptop unless you move it yourself with a trip file or trip code.
• To let the app open with no internet, your browser also keeps a copy of the app's own files (pages, styles, scripts, fonts, icons). This copy contains no personal data.

Exchange rates

When you are online, the app downloads current exchange rates from free public services. It tries them in this order and stops at the first one that answers:

• open.er-api.com (ExchangeRate-API)
• cdn.jsdelivr.net (the open-source fawazahmed0 currency-api), with its mirror latest.currency-api.pages.dev as a backup
• api.frankfurter.dev (Frankfurter, European Central Bank rates)

These requests only ask for public rate tables (for example "US dollar rates today"). They never include your trips, names, amounts or any other personal data. Like any website request, the service receiving it can see your IP address and browser type; their own privacy policies apply to that. If you are offline or every service fails, the app uses a table of rates built into the app, and you can always type your own rate.

Hosting

The website is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. To deliver the site and protect it from abuse, Cloudflare processes standard request information, such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested, in its server logs. We do not use these logs to identify you.

Analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It does not use cookies, does not track you across websites and does not collect personal data. We only see totals, such as the number of page views, which pages were visited, the referring website, and the country and browser type in aggregate.

There are no advertising trackers, no social-media scripts and no third-party fonts. Fonts are served from this site.

When data leaves your device

Only when you choose to share it:

• copying or sharing the text summary (through your device's share menu),
• saving the balances image,
• downloading a CSV or trip file,
• copying a trip code to send to a friend.

Where that data goes next is up to you and the app you share it with.

Permissions

The app asks for file access only when you choose to load a trip file. This version does not use your camera, microphone or location.

Children

Coshare is suitable for all ages. Because we do not collect personal data, we do not knowingly collect children's data.

Deleting your data

• Delete one trip with Erase this trip in the app.
• Delete everything by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

We hold no copy, so there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
